SOCIAL WORK BACHELOR’S DEGREE
Social Work Bachelor’s Degree
Social work is a profession for those with a spark of idealism, a natural love of working with people, and a desire for meaningful work.
Social workers help meet the basic needs of people from various backgrounds and environments, with particular attention to the concerns of people who are vulnerable, in distress, or living in poverty. They enhance human well-being by helping individuals and groups to receive needed resources and providing support for people impacted by mental illness, substance abuse, or other challenges.
Within the social work major, it is possible to complete either a BA or BS degree. In addition to general education and major requirements, a BA degree requires completion of several foreign language courses while the BS degree requires additional science and/or quantitative courses.
The social work major is required for students who intend to pursue a career in social work in Kansas. However, social work program requirements may also fulfill requirements for licensure in other states. Students can explore licensure requirements by state through the Association for Social Work Boards.
Effective Fall 2025, Kansas State University's online social work degree is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s Board of Accreditation.
