Computer Science Education Undergraduate Certificate

Develop real-world coding skills as well as appropriate pedagogical knowledge to teach computer science in K-12 classrooms.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Computer Science Education is a collaborative online program between the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Upon completion of these courses, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and pedagogical strategies to effectively teach computer science in a K-12 setting.

Principles of applied learning, including critical thinking, reflection, and cooperative grouping, are integrated into the curriculum. Simulations will immerse you in realistic teaching scenarios, enhancing your confidence and competence in teaching computer science. Real-world contextualized problems will bridge theory and practice, enabling you to integrate computer science concepts into interdisciplinary contexts, which makes learning more meaningful, relevant and impactful for students.

Each course will provide an element of a final capstone project, which will demonstrate your coding knowledge and understanding of appropriate pedagogy associated with coding concepts.
