The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is a 12 or 18-month online program for individuals who want to become teachers in agricultural education, English, social studies, mathematics, or modern languages. The secondary education option focuses on grades 6-12. Start teaching social studies

The social studies specialization prepares educators to become knowledgeable, ethical, and caring decision makers in an ever-changing diverse world. The social studies specialization will explore principles of teaching government, history, geography and civics for grades 6-12, as well as organization of subject matter, lesson planning, methodologies and classroom management. It combines rigorous online coursework with a field experience in an accredited school near you—no matter where you live in the U.S.

Once you complete the program, you’ll be eligible to apply for an Initial Teaching License in the state of Kansas. The license will transfer to other states upon completion of any additional requirements for that state.
