Kansas State University offers a variety of programs in conflict resolution, including professional training, undergraduate and graduate certificates, and minors. In these programs, you will learn to address the complexity of people's lives, help them build a sense of community, foster mutual respect and cooperation, and assist them in seeing the perspectives of others and collaborating rather than using power as a basis for resolving disputes.

The courses in these programs meet Kansas Office of Dispute Resolution’s training requirements for state approval in core mediation [K.S.A. 5-501 and Rule 902(3)]. The instructors in the classes are state-approved certified mediators.

Conflict Resolution Professional Training

The conflict resolution professional certificate teaches the fundamentals of conflict resolution theory and practical application. It is ideal for professionals who would benefit from training in conflict analysis and resolution but do not need the academic credit. The courses are available online and range in length from eight to 16 weeks. The format will follow the same pacing as the credit option. If you have questions about the professional certificate, please contact the program director, Brett Mallon, at bmallon@k-state.edu.

Conflict Resolution Academic Certificate Options

The conflict resolution undergraduate certificate is offered for 12 credit hours. You will build the capacity and competency to effectively engage with conflicts as well as how to build, nurture and maintain meaningful interpersonal relationships.

The conflict resolution graduate certificate is offered for 12 credit hours. You will learn to address the complexity of people’s lives, build a sense of community and foster mutual respect and cooperation rather than using power as a basis for resolving disputes.

Conflict Minors

The conflict analysis and trauma studies undergraduate minor (CATS) integrates peace and conflict studies with clinical mental health. The minor is offered for 18 credit hours.

The interdisciplinary conflict resolution minor is available for 15 credit hours. This program provides you with an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of analyzing and resolving conflict.
